Building Research in Breast Cancer Prevention and Treatment
Noted breast cancer prevention and treatment researcher Yanfen Hu, PhD, recently joined the faculty at the George Washington University (GW) School of Medicine and Health Sciences as professor of anatomy and cell biology and a member of the GW Cancer Center’s cancer biology program.
Previously an associate professor of molecular medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Hu is the principal investigator on multiple grants studying BRCA1 associated cancers. That includes a National Institutes of Health grant exploring the role of BRCA1 in DNA repair and genome stability maintenance and a U.S. Department of Defense grant investigating drug resistance in BRCA1 associated cancers. In 2014, Hu received a Minority- Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Award from the American Association for Cancer Research.
